Survivors, Lawmakers + Safe Horizon @ Epstein Mansion Call for Child Victims Act & Lookback Windows Nationwide

Explosion of internet child porn necessitates the need for more SOL reform Epstein's victims can only sue in NY under the CVA, but not Florida

NEW YORK (10/28/2019) (readMedia)-- Livestream will be here.

Since the one year "lookback window" of the Child Victims Act opened on August 14, nearly 1,000 civil lawsuits have been filed across New York. However, with the explosion of internet child porn as the New York Times recently reported (over 45 million images and videos in the last year) clear evidence of abuse may be found years and decades after it took place so the need for further reform is even more urgent. There has also been an onslaught of interstate abuse like in Epstein's case, revealing the patchwork of laws across the country insufficient to deal with the reality of childhood sexual abuse.

In response, Safe Horizon will call for the federal government to incentivize states across the country to enact statute of limitations reform with look-back windows to allow adult survivors more time to seek justice in the courts, regardless of where and when they were abused. This is the same strategy used to pass national seat belt laws, increase the drinking age, etc...

In August, Safe Horizon launched a video PSA and a webpage for adult survivors of child sexual abuse, which has received over 14,000 unique pageviews. Safe Horizon is the largest service provider in the country for survivors of abuse.
