Sweet Goods Win at the State Fair

DES MOINES, IA (09/17/2024) (readMedia)-- Contestants placed with their baked goods in the Foods Made with Honey division, judged Friday, August 16, at the 2024 Iowa State Fair.

Brenda Klyn of Pella was named Overall Adult winner. Jansen Petersen of Knoxville won Overall winner for youth entries.

Robin Tarbell-Thomas of Centerville won the Sweepstakes award and was the Overall Adult – Breads & Rolls winner. Barb Miller of Prairie City and Joyce Larson of New Market tied for the Reserve Sweepstakes award, and Larson won Overall Adult – Quick Breads.

Entries were judged on use of honey, appearance, texture and taste.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 140 divisions, 726 classes and nearly 6,400 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
