Syracuse Native Amanda Billy Named Academic All District in Basketball

Starter on Marymount's 20-1 Team Excells on Court and in Classroom

ARLINGTON, VA (02/04/2010)(readMedia)-- Marymount University junior guard Amanda Billy was selected to the 2010 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Billy, a mathematics major with a 3.64 grade point average, was named to the District III second team. The Syracuse, N.Y. native, who played for Christian Brothers Academy, is a Dean's List student.

Currently, she is averaging 13.2 points per game for the Marymount Saints, which places her sixth in the Capital Athletic Conference in scoring. She is averaging 3.0 three-pointers a game, which leads the conference and is 11th in the nation among NCAA Division III players. She also is fifth in the CAC in 3-point field goal percentage (.358).

She set a new single game Marymount record this season for three-pointers, hitting for eight in the season's opener against Gallaudet. She currently is in the second place among all-time MU players for the most three-pointers in a season with 64.

Marymount currently is 20-1 and ranked #7 nationally by the D3hoops.com poll.

This marks the fourth consecutive year that a Marymount women's basketball player has been named to the Academic All District Team. Stephanie Witko was honored in 2007 and Kathleen Brown in 2008 and 2009.

To qualify for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be a starter or significant reserve on her basketball team, at least a sophomore in class and maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average.
