TODAY: Samara Community School, Bronx River Alliance, and THE POINT to Host 2nd Annual Guppy Parade
Students, families, community partners, and neighbors will gather along New York City's last major freshwater river for the second annual Guppy Parade
BRONX, NY (06/12/2026) (readMedia)-- Today, Samara Community School, Bronx River Alliance, and THE POINT CDC will host the second annual "Guppy Parade," gathering students, families, and neighbors to celebrate New York City's last major freshwater river, its native wildlife, history, and its continued restoration. Building on Samara Community School's annual end-of-year student showcase, the parade brings learning out of the classroom and into Starlight Park, where students spend the year exploring and learning from the river. This year's parade carries special significance: the Bronx River Alliance is also marking the 25th anniversary of its efforts to restore and reclaim the river as a thriving community resource.
Rather than the traditional indoor museum-style showcase, students will take their learning outside and into the community, hosting stations throughout the park to share the environmental and social issues they've spent the year researching and advocating for. Through student-created artwork, educational materials, and advocacy projects, students will engage visitors on issues affecting the Bronx River and their communities. Families, neighbors, and passersby are invited to visit student-led stations, pick up flyers, and engage directly with the next generation of Bronx River stewards. Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn about upcoming public paddles and summer programming offered by the Bronx River Alliance, open to all community members looking to connect with the river beyond the school year.
