Tavernier Promoted to Associate Professor at SUNY Canton

CANTON, NY (12/15/2015)(readMedia)-- Ronald J. Tavernier Jr., Ph.D., has been promoted from assistant professor to associate professor of biology in the School of Science, Health and Criminal Justice at SUNY Canton.

He is currently the chair of the Science Department and has been a faculty member since 2007. Tavernier received his bachelor of science degree in wildlife management and a Ph.D. in biological sciences from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 1997 and 2007, respectively.

His research focuses on circadian rhythms and selective breeding. He has also authored numerous journal articles and conference papers and has presented at multiple conferences across the country.

Among his many honors are a National Center for Academic Transformation grant and several graduate and undergraduate scholarships. He is also the recipient of eight Golden Apple Awards from SUNY Canton's Phi Theta Kappa honor society students.

Tavernier is an active member of the community, most notably as the director of Camp Invention, a summer science and engineering camp at SUNY Canton. Since 2011 the camp has allowed local children in grades first through sixth the opportunity to explore the connections between science, technology, engineering and innovation.
