Taylor Spencer of Mechanicsville Awarded Gough-Broun Scholarship
ST. MARY'S CITY, MD (01/06/2014)(readMedia)-- Taylor Spencer, a Mechanicsville, Md., native and junior at St. Mary's College of Maryland, was recently awarded the Gough-Broun Scholarship. Established in 2001 by Joseph Marion Gough, Jr., the scholarship benefits graduates of St. Mary's Ryken High School who have academic merit.
At St. Mary's College of Maryland, Spencer is studying psychology and English. She plans to continue in the mental health field and hopes to get more poems published and obtain a Ph.D.
Outside of the classroom, Spencer is a Lannan Poetry Fellow and recovery coach at a behavioral health center. She is also interested in activism, advocacy and meditation.
St. Mary's College of Maryland, designated the Maryland state honors college in 1992, is ranked one of the best public liberal arts schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. More than 2,000 students attend the college, nestled on the St. Mary's River in Southern Maryland.
