Taylor named Athlete of the Week

POTSDAM, NY (02/13/2012)(readMedia)-- SUNY Potsdam junior swimmer Alexander Taylor (Port Ewen, N.Y./Kingston) was named the State University of New York Athletic Conference's Athlete of the Week for swimming for the week ending Feb. 12.

At the SUNYAC Championships in Buffalo over the weekend, Taylor won the 100 and 200 breaststroke events. He set four Potsdam records and one conference mark on his way to being named the Outstanding Male Swimmer of the Meet.

On Thursday, the junior broke his own 200 individual medley school record with a time of 1:56.80 in the preliminaries. On Friday, Taylor set a new Potsdam mark in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 0:57.89. In the finals, he topped the record again for a new Potsdam mark of 0:57.67 to win the event. Saturday, he captured the 200 breaststroke with a Potsdam and SUNYAC record time of 2:06.61.

This is the second time Taylor has earned this honor. He was also the SUNYAC Athlete of the week for the week ending Oct. 30.
