Ten-Minute Play Festival Returns to SUNY Potsdam Stage

Department of Theatre and Dance Presents Short Works in Festival Directed, Designed and Performed by Students

POTSDAM, NY (11/10/2016)(readMedia)-- SUNY Potsdam's Department of Theatre and Dance will present its annual Ten-Minute Play Festival, featuring works directed, designed and performed by students, from Nov. 17 to Nov. 20 in the College's Performing Arts Center.

Student directors and designers in their respective introductory classes have been leaders in all aspects of this artistic process throughout the fall semester. The Ten-Minute Play Festival is the culmination of their learning and development.

Faculty advisors for the festival include Todd Canedy (design), Tom Grabowski (lighting design) and Joshua Vink (directing).

Evening performances will be offered on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 17 and 18, at 7:30 p.m., and there will be two matinees, to be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 19 and 20. All performances will be presented in the Black Box Theatre, located in the SUNY Potsdam Performing Arts Center.

The Ten-Minute Play Festival is free, and the public is invited to attend. Please be advised that some plays contain content which is suitable for mature audiences only.

This year's festival is divided into two programs.

Program A will be presented on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m., and on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 2 p.m., featuring:

  • "Gray Matter" by Jeanette D. Farr, directed by Thomas Rubin,
  • "Late Arrival" by Theresa Redbeck, directed by Makenzie Cuozzo,
  • "Realer Than That" by Kitt Lavoie, directed by Ryan Tracy,
  • "Eating Out" by Marcia Dixcy, directed by Evan Lashbrooks,
  • "Mere Mortals" by David Ives, directed by Hannah Merrell and
  • "The FQ" by Andrew Heinz, directed by Erin Hunziker.

Program B will be presented on Friday, Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m., and on Sunday, Nov. 20 at 2 p.m., featuring:

  • "Valentine's Play" by Jenny Lyn Bader, directed by Ashley Scicchitano,
  • "Tape" by Jose Rivera, directed by Julian Goldenberg,
  • "Bone China" by K. Alexa Mavromatis, directed by Victoria DiViesti,
  • "The Curator" by Jennifer Diamond, directed by Joanna Battersby,
  • "Zealot" by Julie Marie Myatt, directed by Anthony Ward,
  • Three scenes from "Stop Kiss" by Diana Son, directed by Reese Reed and
  • "Electric Roses" by David Howard, directed by James Gillick.

The afternoon performances on Nov. 19 and 20 will be followed by a 20-minute question and answer session with the directors, designers and actors. All are welcome to stay to enjoy this event.
