The Hicks Prize in Fiction
Established by John Hicks, an editor of the Oshkosh Daily Northwestern, U.S. diplomat, and Lawrence trustee (1911-16), The Hicks Prize in Fiction is awarded for the best submitted short story. "New Life" by Henry Sandberg Hale is a story of growing up and of growing out of one's former attachments. Told with rich, evocative details and true-to-life dialogue, the characters reveal their deeper inner lives to the readers in a short span of time.
