'The Impossible Will Take a Little While' Author Visits SUNY Potsdam

SUNY Potsdam First-Year Success Seminar Welcomes Author Paul Loeb for Lecture and Book Signing Oct. 15

POTSDAM, NY (10/09/2014)(readMedia)-- Renowned author Paul Loeb will visit SUNY Potsdam for a lecture and book signing next week. The editor of "The Impossible Will Take a Little While: A Citizen's Guide to Hope in a Time of Fear," Loeb will speak to freshmen, as part of the College's First-Year Success Seminar.

First-year students who read Loeb's book will have a chance to ask the author questions and have their books signed in person. The public is invited to attend this free event as well.

The lecture will be offered on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. in the Helen M. Hosmer Concert Hall at SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music.

"The Impossible Will Take a Little While" is a collection of 50 stories and essays that ranges across nations, eras, wars and political movements. The collection works to explore the prospect of working toward creating a better world, despite the obstacles we face. Contributors to the collection include Maya Angelou, Vaclav Havel, Nelson Mandela, Bill McKibben, Pablo Neruda, Desmond Tutu, Alice Walker, Cornel West, Howard Zinn and more.

About the speaker:

Paul Loeb has spent more than 30 years researching and writing about citizen responsibility and empowerment, asking what makes some people choose lives of social commitment, while others abstain. He attended Stanford University and New York's New School for Social Research. Loeb has written for a range of publications, including the New York Times, the Washington Post and Psychology Today. He is also the author of five books, including "Soul of a Citizen: Living With Conviction in Challenging Times."
