POTSDAM, NY (09/23/2014)(readMedia)-- From classic to contemporary, the 2014-15 season of The Met: Live in HD will bring 10 exciting productions from the Metropolitan Opera to the movie screen in Potsdam again this year.

Sponsored in the North Country by SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music and J.S. Cinemas, the ninth season of the series is sure to captivate audiences, with live transmissions from the Metropolitan Opera stage beamed to silver screens in more than 2,000 movie theaters in 66 countries around the world.

Once again, SUNY Potsdam alumna Renée Fleming '81 will be featured in the Met Live series. She will star as the beguiling femme fatale in Lehár's operetta, "The Merry Widow," airing live on Jan. 17, 2015.

The 2014-15 Live in HD season features 10 transmissions, offering a significant portion of the Met season to opera lovers around the world.

All performances will be screened at the Roxy Theater, in downtown Potsdam. Robotic cameras, strategically placed around and behind the stage, will capture the beauty and power of live performance from striking angles, and heighten attention to both performance and production. Intermission features and English subtitles will once again bring the stories to life.

All productions will be shown live worldwide on Saturdays. There will also be encore presentations offered on Sundays locally.

  • Rossini's "Il Barbiere di Siviglia": Live on Nov. 22 at 12:55 p.m., encore on Nov. 23 at 6:30 p.m.
  • Wagner's "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg": Live on Dec. 13 at noon, encore on Dec. 14 at 5:30 p.m.
  • Lehár's "The Merry Widow": Live on Jan. 17 at 12:55 p.m., encore on Jan. 25 at 6:30 p.m.
  • Offenbach's "Les Contes d'Hoffman": Live on Jan. 31 at 12:55 p.m., encore on Feb. 8 at 6:30 p.m.
  • Tchaikovsky's "Iolantha" and Bartók's "Duke Bluebeard's Castle": Live on Feb. 14 at 12:30 p.m., encore on Feb. 22 at 6:30 p.m.
  • Rossini's "La Donna del Lago": Live on March 14 at 12:55 p.m., encore on March 22 at 6:30 p.m.
  • Mascagni's "Cavalleria Rusticana" and Leoncavallo's "Pagliacci": Live on April 25 at 12:30 p.m., encore on April 26 at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets prices are the lowest available in the nation: $18 for an adult, $15 for senior citizens, $12 for students and $9 for youth age 18 and under.
