The New York Bar Foundation Accepting Applications from Nonprofit Organizations for Fellowship
ALBANY, NY (09/18/2014)(readMedia)-- A nonprofit or public interest legal organization will receive funding to host a law student intern next summer under a corporate counsel fellowship program of The New York Bar Foundation.
A New York based-organization will receive a grant of $6,000 to award a summer fellowship to a second-year law student of a diverse background. The student will assist the organization's general counsel or legal staff from June to August 2015.
The goal of the fellowship is to have a student assist selected organization without cost, while providing a student with an opportunity to experience in-house legal practice. The fellowship is made possible by a gift to The Foundation from the Corporate Counsel Section of the New York State Bar Association.
"Having a New York Bar Foundation Fellow over the course of the summer was an invaluable asset to our organization," said Basil H. Kim, associate general counsel of Visiting Nurse Service of New York (VNSNY). "Our fellow Anita Yee not only was able to get hands-on experience and insight into what it meant to be an in-house counsel, but she contributed significantly to the work of the department and interacted with a wide variety of professionals and mentors at VNSNY."
"It is our great privilege to provide funding for this worthy endeavor. Both the selected organization and fellow will benefit from this exciting program," said David Rothenberg of New York City (Goldman Sachs), of the Corporate Counsel Section.
Organizations must apply by November 30, 2014. Applications and guidelines can be found at www.tnybf.org/fellandschol.
