The New York Bar Foundation Announces Fellowship and Scholarship Recipients

ALBANY, NY (07/29/2014)(readMedia)-- Six law students at New York law schools have received fellowships and scholarships from The New York Bar Foundation.

"The Foundation congratulates these students on receiving these awards," said Bar Foundation President Cristine Cioffi. "We strive to advance legal research and education. Through the support of gifts from the State Bar Association sections, we are able to offer invaluable real-life experience to students around the state."

Albany Law student Anna Federico of Hopewell Junction received the Commercial and Federal Litigation Section Minority Fellowship. As the recipient of the $6,000 fellowship, Federico is interning this summer in the chambers of Justice Marcy Friedman of the Commercial Division of the Supreme Court of New York.

Buffalo Law student Amanda Karpovich of Greene and Touro Law student Hannah Carmel of Central Islip each received Trusts and Estates Law Section Fellowships of $5,000. Karpovich is interning this summer in the chambers of the Justice Barbara Howe of Erie County Surrogate's Court. Carmel is interning in the chambers of Justice Rita Maria Mella of New York County Surrogate's Court.

Ned Schultheis of Manhattan, a first-year student at Brooklyn Law School, received the 2014 Honorable Charles L. Brieant, Jr. Fellowship. He is interning in the chambers of Loretta A. Preska, chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. He received a $5,000 fellowship.

Brooklyn Law student Anita Yee of Manhattan is interning with the Visiting Nurse Service of New York. She received the Corporate Counsel Section Fellowship of $6,000.

Kimberly Waldin of Ballston Spa, a second-year law student at Albany Law School, received the 2014 Judge Bernard S. Meyer Scholarship for her paper "Trash: Getting Rid of Unwanted Children through 'Private Re-Homing'." She received a $5,000 scholarship.
