The Rev. David Luckert to Keynote LETU Houston Commencement

LONGVIEW, TX (12/03/2010)(readMedia)-- The Rev. David Luckert, senior pastor at St. John's United Methodist Church in Houston, will give the commencement address at LeTourneau University's Houston commencement ceremonies at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, at Sagemont Church, 11300 South Sam Houston Parkway East, LETU President Dr. Dale A. Lunsford will officiate the ceremony.

Luckert is a 1980 alumnus of LETU who earned his Master of Divinity degree in 1985 from Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Ky. He is an ordained elder in the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. He served as the pastor for several churches in the East Texas area, including six and a half years at the First Methodist Church in Chandler, Texas.

From 1988 to 1994, Luckert served as the Director of Chapel and Student Activities at LeTourneau University where he oversaw chapel services and other aspects of spiritual life on campus. Some of his responsibilities were LeTourneau Student Ministries, Missions Emphasis Week and Spring Break Missions, as well as student events, including intramural sports. During that time of transition at LeTourneau, army barracks on campus where Luckert lived as a student were demolished as the school grew in programs and as a university.

LeTourneau University is an interdenominational Christian university located in Longview, Texas, offering academic majors in aeronautical science, business, education, engineering, health care, the humanities and sciences. LeTourneau University also offers graduate and undergraduate degree programs for working adults online and at educational centers in Austin, Bedford, Dallas, Houston and Tyler.
