2009 Best Educational Documentary Winner at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival, The War on Kids is a 95-minute documentary illustrating how the American public school system has become more authoritarian than educational. The film explains how many schools are failing in their mission to educate effectively and how they are eroding the country's democratic foundation. Also, the film explores the similarities between schools and prisons and criticizes that prisoners have more human rights than students. The documentary includes interviews with school children, high school teachers and administrators, prison security guards, and others.
Cevin Soling is president of Spectacle Films, Xemu Records and World Watch Productions. He is an advocate for civil rights, focusing on children as the world's most neglected group. Currently, he is working on the second film of The War on Kids documentary series which will focus on American culture at large and its aggressive campaign of oppressing youth. Soling's other work includes his award-winning documentary The War on the War on Drugs and his films Relax It's Just Sex (starring Jennifer Tilly, Lori Petty and Cynda Williams, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was seen on HBO and Showtime), A Hole in the Head and Urine: Good Health among others.
