The third annual Adirondack Rural Skills and Homesteading Festival returns to the Paul Smith's College VIC

PAUL SMITHS, NY (09/11/2014)(readMedia)-- Have you ever dreamed of living off the land? Want to lead a more sustainable lifestyle and save yourself some money in the process? Check out this year's Adirondack Rural Skills and Homesteading Festival at the Paul Smith's College VIC, and you'll be well on your way.

This celebration of rural skills, which takes place from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, will showcase historical traditions, as well as modern tools and techniques for safe and practical rural living with a distinctly Adirondack flair.

Workshops and demonstrations will appeal to a wide range of interests:

– Canning food

– Dehydrating jerky

– Making cider

– Building a bow for hunting

– Using renewable energy

– Raising livestock

– Processing poultry

– Foraging for wild edibles

– Small-scale farming

– Heating with firewood

– Primitive skills.

Exhibitions will include logging and farming with draft horses, sponsored by the Paul Smith's College Draft Horse Club, and a demonstration of competitive lumberjack sports by the Paul Smith's College Woodsmen's Team. This year's festival is sponsored by the Adirondack Center for Working Landscapes and Franklin County Cornell Cooperative Extension.
