Thomaston Teen Enrolled in Mary Baldwin College's Early College Academy

STAUNTON, VA (08/08/2013)(readMedia)-- Kate Abbott Hawkins of Thomaston, GA, is enrolled in the Early College Academy (ECA) at Mary Baldwin College. She will be pursuing a bachelor's degree in English at the age of 17.

Kate Abbott is the daughter of Mark and Courtney Hawkins of Thomaston and the granddaughter of Judi and Lee Clark of Thomaston and Reg Hawkins of Highlands, NC.

ECA offers motivated students the opportunity to begin college early while living with their peers in a supportive, nurturing environment. ECA is for students 16-17 years of age who will bypass some of their high school years and earn college credit while doing so.

ECA is highly selective and based on a variety of criteria including a supplemental application. Successful applicants have high standardized test scores and grades, demonstrate emotional maturity, and tend to have a sense of purpose and an intense desire to learn.

Founded in 1842, Mary Baldwin is a diverse institution that transforms lives through personalized education, innovatively integrating liberal arts, experimental learning, civic engagement, and global citizenship. At the undergraduate level, the College for Women serves about 850 students on the historic main campus in downtown Staunton Virginia.
