Three New Board Members Elected to State Fair Board
LEWISBURG, WV (03/29/2011)(readMedia)-- Three new members were elected to the State Fair of West Virginia board of directors at the organization's March 19th annual membership meeting.
Greenbrier County native and 14 year House of Delegate member Tom Campbell was elected to fill a two year unexpired term created when long-time board member Marion Shiflet passed away in the fall of 2010. Campbell has served 12 years as a State Fair Advisory director and traces his State Fair involvement to his high school and college days where he worked on the grounds crew and sold tickets. Tom is a 1983 graduate of West Virginia University, with a degree in Business Administration. He has worked in the business world as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) since 1985.
Jo Allen Sibold Long was elected to a three year term. Long was raised on a family dairy farm in Monroe County, and she and her family currently reside on a beef cattle farm in Williamsburg. Jo holds a BS in Education from Concord University and a Masters in Early Childhood Education from Radford University. She has over 35 years of teaching experience including 4 years in Monroe County and is active in 4-H on a county and state level. Long has also been involved with the State Fair's dairy show.
Phoebe Echols McGuire a native of Monroe County, was also elected to a three year term. Phoebe and her family reside in Monroe County where she has taught school for twenty-seven years and currently teaches at James Monroe High School. A graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute, she majored in Interior Design with minors in education and extension. Phoebe has exhibited at the Fair through 4-H since she was nine years old with market lambs and dairy cows, worked for seven summers during high school and college, and has served as a Culinary Arts department superintendent for twenty-seven years.
Keith Morgan, of Ronceverte and Lewisburg resident Gayle Mason McCroskey were reelected to three year terms. During the annual meeting, long time board member Cliff Huffman was recognized for his service to the State Fair and officially honored as the newest Director Emeritus.
The State Fair of West Virginia, with an $8.9 million dollar economic impact on Greenbrier County, is a 501 © 3 non-profit corporation committed to the traditions of agriculture, family entertainment, and education.
