Three Years After Tsunami, Sri Lanka Struggles To Rebuild Healthcare Infrastructure

Physicians for Peace Provides Perspective in Series of Radio Interviews

NORFOLK, VA (12/16/2007)(readMedia)-- Physicians for Peace announces an upcoming schedule of radio interviews featuring Physicians for Peace nurse volunteer and University of Virginia faculty member Carolyn Ramwell, who recently returned from a Physicians for Peace mission to Sri Lanka. The mission, that also included Physicians for Peace volunteer and Medical Operations Committee co-chair Dr. Don Buckley, sought ways to improve the pediatric health care infrastructure in Sri Lanka, decimated as the result of the devastating December 26th, 2004 tsunami.

In the interviews, Carolyn will discuss the ongoing health care needs in Sri Lanka, and how Physicians for Peace, in conjunction with partners such as the World Children’s Initiative and the Children’s National Medical Center (in Washington, DC), will be working to improve access to health care in this region. The first project undertaken by these partners will be rebuilding a pediatric hospital in Matara, Sri Lanka, and training a new generation of health care professionals.

The schedule of interviews is as follows:
