ELMIRA, NY (09/24/2018) For the third year in a row, the Elmira College Ceramics Department faculty and students hosted the Catholic Charities Annual Community Throwing Night to End Hunger in Fassett Commons.

The lighthearted bowl throwing competition challenges local business and community members to try their hand at creating bowls on the potters wheel. This year, Mrs. Lindsay participated in the event representing Elmira College, quickly grasping the technique after a demonstration by EC students and local artists.

Bowls created at the throwing night benefit Catholic Charities' 13th Annual Empty Bowls Luncheon schedule for Tuesday, October 16 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. in the EC Campus Center. The largest fundraising event for the Catholic Charities Samaritan Center, the luncheon coincides with World Food Day and is meant to raise awareness of the effects of hunger on the community.

Luncheon attendees have an opportunity to purchase a handmade bowl from the throwing night. Tickets are $40 per person for lunch and a commemorative soup bowl, $320 for reserved seating for eight, or $20 per person for lunch only (no bowl included). A limited number of tickets are sold and are available for purchase by contacting Catholic Charities at 607-734-9784 or online at cs-cc.org.

Along with Mrs. Lindsay, EC students, and local artists, there were a number of alumni participating as well. Those in attendance included James Randall '15, Karissa Andersen '18, Andy Seward '18, and Angie Niforatos '10. A special thanks to all who participated!
