Thruway Authority Announces Eastbound Overnight Ramp Closure at Interchange 25A (Binghamton, I-88)

Motorists Advised to Follow Signed Detour Route

ALBANY, NY (10/09/2009)(readMedia)-- The New York State Thruway Authority today announced the eastbound exit ramp at Interchange 25A (Binghamton, I-88) will be closed at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, October 12, 2009 until 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2009, to perform pavement work, weather permitting.

The westbound ramps and the eastbound entry ramp will remain open during this project. In the event of inclement weather, the pavement work will take place on Tuesday, October 13, 2009.

Eastbound motorists seeking access to I-88 are advised to follow the signed detour route, directing them to continue east on I-90 to Interchange 25 (Schenectady, I-890), then take I-890 westbound to High Bridge Road Exit 8, turn left at the traffic light at the end of the ramp and turn left at the next traffic light to re-enter I-890 eastbound. Motorists should then re-enter the Thruway (I-90) westbound and exit at Interchange 25A.

The Authority will activate its Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) in advance of the area to provide motorists with notice of the construction and required ramp closure.

Motorists are reminded to remain alert and aware of their surroundings while traveling through the work zone, and to obey all posted work zone speed limits. Motorists should also keep in mind that speeding fines are doubled in work zones.

This work is being completed as part of the on-going $4.98 million roadway resurfacing project between Interchange 23 (Downtown Albany, I-787) and Interchange 24 (Albany, I-87/I-90). The project also includes paving the entrance and exit ramps of Albany Interchanges 23 and 24, Schenectady Interchange 25 (I-890) and Schenectady Interchange 25A (I-88). The project, scheduled for completion in November 2009, is being completed by Callanan Industries Inc. of Schenectady, New York.

The Authority appreciates motorists' patience and understanding while this essential project takes place.
