Thruway Authority Announces Mountainview Avenue Bridge To Reopen August 1

ALBANY, NY (07/31/2009)(readMedia)-- The New York State Thruway Authority today announced that the Mountainview Avenue Bridge, which crosses over the Thruway (I-87) one-half mile north of Interchange 11 (Nyack, US Route 9W), weather permitting, will be reopened Saturday, August 1, 2009, approximately three weeks ahead of schedule.

Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling through the area as the contractor will still be periodically working on the bridge, and as a result, will need to occasionally close one lane. Motorists should also be alert to construction workers on the bridge and flaggers directing traffic.

The bridge was originally closed on Wednesday, July 8 for a rehabilitation project that included milling the existing asphalt, installation of water-resistant asphalt, safety walk repairs and installation of new bridge joints.

The $1.9 million contract was awarded to Eastern States Construction Inc. of Valley Cottage, New York.

The Authority appreciates motorists' and residents' patience while these necessary repairs were made.
