Motorist May Experience Delays On I-87 Between Interchanges 8 & 11

ALBANY, NY (10/14/2009)(readMedia)-- The National Multiple Sclerosis Society-Southern New York Chapter and the New York State Thruway Authority will once again hold the Great TZ Bike Tour for MS on Sunday, October 18, 2009, beginning at 7:30 a.m.

On October 18, motorists may experience delays on I-87 northbound from 6 a.m. through noon between Interchange 8 (Cross Westchester Expressway) across the Tappan Zee Bridge to Interchange 11 (Nyack).

Between the hours of 6 a.m. and noon, Interchanges 10 (Nyack, South Nyack) and 11 (Nyack) northbound will be closed. Northbound traffic heading to the Nyack area will be rerouted through Interchange 12 (West Nyack).

Throughout the event, the Tappan Zee Bridge will remain open to traffic with two northbound and three southbound lanes of travel available. However, speed on the Tappan Zee Bridge will be reduced to 45 mph. Again, the Tappan Zee Bridge will not be closed to vehicular traffic.

Travelers may wish to seek alternate routes the morning of October 18. Motorists traveling in or around the event area are encouraged to plan their trips accordingly, remain alert and exercise caution.

The Authority will activate its Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) as well as it Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) to advise motorist of the closures and any delays that may result.
