AIKEN, SC (03/19/2018) On April 13 at 7:30 p.m., USC Aiken's Etherredge Center will host Semi-Toned, an international, award-winning a cappella group from the United Kingdom.

Tickets are $40 and are available by phone at (803) 641-3305 or online at: https://etherredge.usca.edu/performances/tickets.dot .

The Semi-Toned performance is the last in the season for the Etherredge Center's Cultural Series. During this year's six-show season, audiences have seen everything from Shakespeare parodies to string quartets. However, Semi-Toned will be a first for the Etherredge Center, which has never hosted an a cappella group. Semi-Toned's performance is provided in response to requests from the Aiken community for more singing ensembles.

The a cappella group is comprised of current students from the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom. Semi-Toned includes 12 performers who earned the title of national champions in April 2015 after winning the Voice Festival UK. In November and December 2016, Semi-Toned competed in Gareth Malone's new TV show on BBC2 called The Choir: Gareth's Best in Britain. After battling it out to represent the Southwest, the group went on to win the competition with their arrangements of 'Candle in the Wind' and 'Anthem of Praise.'

As well as singing and studying at Exeter, Semi-Toned tours extensively, performing at the Edinburgh Fringe every year. The group has received excellent critical reception for its shows, including The Exe-Men, Game of Tones and Toned Up. The latter won the highly coveted Bobby Award, which is reserved for the highest-rated shows of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The group returned to the Fringe in August 2016 with their critically acclaimed show Sing Theory and again in 2017 with their five-star sell-out show Stay Tuned.

The group toured the East Coast of the United States in 2015 with shows in New York, Boston, Washington, and New Haven, Conn. Semi-Toned returned in Spring 2016 to the East Coast, selling out shows from Florida to New York. In 2017, their third USA tour took them across the Midwest and Western states, including Texas, California, Oregon, Nevada and Iowa. The Etherredge Center performance is part of their lastest U.S. tour.

Praised for their creativity, uniqueness and vocal acrobatics the group embraces music of a variety of genres to ensure there really is something for everyone in any of their shows. Semi-Toned are renowned not just for their musically tight performances but also for their inventive choreography and their trademark witty and engaging style.
