Today: Children Make a Difference in Harlem by Volunteering to Help Others
Community mobilizes to make a difference—with hands-on service projects for kids!
NEW YORK, NY (08/12/2008)(readMedia)-- On Tuesday, August 12, 2008, Children for Children (CFC), a non -profit organization, in partnership with Lehman Brothers and Boys and Girls Harbor, will mobilize hundreds of volunteers to carry out more than 22 service projects all in one afternoon of youth activism, music, popcorn, and games. Volunteers will be planting flowers for senior citizens, painting murals for a local school, creating healthy eating cookbooks, and making "peace bracelets" for those affected by domestic violence, among other projects.
"Through volunteer events like this, Children for Children hopes to make a lasting impact on New York youth and encourage all to become leaders in their own communities," said Maggie Jones, Executive Director of Children for Children. "Partnering with corporations like Lehman Brothers, and dynamic groups like Boys and Girls Harbor, allows us to expand the reach of these hands-on service-learning programs for kids, making a far-reaching impact, uniting children and youth of all ages, from diverse backgrounds, in a fun volunteer environment. We invite youth, families, schools, and community-based organizations to help us make this a meaningful day and prove that children and youth have the power to change the world."
