Top Hog Callers Gather for State Fair Contest

DES MOINES, IA (08/21/2017) (readMedia)-- Farm noises rang from Pioneer Hall during the Hog Calling contest held Friday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.

Contestants did their best imitations of hog callers to the delight of the many fairgoers that gathered.

Results below:

Youth – Ages 5-16

1) Payton Phelan, 8, Des Moines

2) Evie Wood, 9, Dubuque

3) Mason Dostenink, 9, Boone

Adult – 17 and Over

1) Kyle Barton, 44, West Des Moines

2) Eric Londquist, 49, Cedar Rapids

3) Bonnie Swalwell Eibert, "way over 17", Newton

The contest was part of "Rural Americana Olde Tyme Competitions" in Farm Bureau Pioneer Hall. A first prize of $5 and ribbons were awarded to each class.
