Top Sausage Makers Win State Fair Awards

DES MOINES, IA (08/15/2018) (readMedia)-- The state's most talented sausage makers squared off at the Best of the Wurst competition judged Tuesday at the 2018 Iowa State Fair.

Marks Locker in Rowley won first place in the Cooked Bratwurst class of competition. Elma Locker of Elma took second place and Edgewood Locker of Edgewood earned third place.

In the Uncooked Bratwurst class, Clarion Locker of Clarion won first place. Elma Locker of Elma claimed second place and S&S Locker of Osage took third place.

Dayton Meat Locker of Malcom won first place in the Summer Sausage class. Jet's Meat Processing of Waukon earned second place and Ulrich Meat Market of Pella claimed third place.

Entries were judged on texture, external appearance and internal appearance.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 171 divisions, 727 classes and over 9,574 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
