Top Snack Mix Makers Win State Fair Awards

DES MOINES, IA (08/19/2019) (readMedia)-- The creative powers of avid snackers across the state were put to the test in the AllSpice Snack Mix Contest, judged Monday, at the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

In the Savory Snack Mix division, Susan Schultz of Haverhill won first place. Meredith Willey of Norwalk claimed second place and Sara Carlson of Des Moines earned third place.

Ann Gillotti of Ankeny won first place and a $50 cash award in the Sweet Snack Mix division. Sara Carlson of Des Moines earned second place and Bridget Lottman of Norwalk took third place.

Entries were judged on creativity, taste and "addictiveness."

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 166 divisions, 715 classes and over 7,300 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
