Torte Wins Iowa State Fair Winter Squash Cooking Competition

DES MOINES, IA (08/24/2010)(readMedia)-- Lana Ross of Indianola won first place with Harvest Torte in the Cooking with Winter Squash competition judged Saturday at the 2010 Iowa State Fair.

Jamie Buelt of Polk City won second place and Marcia Trevillyan of West Des Moines earned third place.

Louise Cothron of Afton and Pamela Cooper of Mount Ayr both were awarded Honorable Mention.

Entrees were judged on taste, originality and best use of winter squash.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. Food Department judging is held in the recently-renovated Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny.
