Buildings like these in the Town of Campbell would be eligible for incentives for preservation if a Cultural Resources Survey leads to State and National Register of Historic Places listing.

ALBANY, NY (12/19/2014)(readMedia)-- The Preservation League of New York State will make a grant of $5,100 to support the cost of completing a reconnaissance-level survey of the Town of Campbell at 12:00 noon on Monday, December 22, at the Town Hall, 8529 Main Street, Campbell.

Campbell is a rural community located 10 miles northwest of Corning. Several 19th-century farmsteads and 20th-century public and commercial buildings contribute to the character of the township. The Preserve New York grant will help identify properties for future listing in the State and National Registers of Historic Places.

The project supports the town's master plan goals and will be completed by Johnson-Schmidt & Associates, Architects of Corning.

"We really appreciate this grant from the Preservation League of New York State to determine which buildings may qualify for historic designation," said David Tennent, Supervisor, Town of Campbell. "This will enable us to work with residents to preserve our heritage and to implement our vision of being a vibrant, attractive rural town. Furthermore, it will allow our Planning Board to develop guidelines to protect the character of our area."

The Preserve New York Grant Program is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature. "With the announcement of the 2014 awards, the total support provided by Preserve New York since its launch in 1993 is over $1.9 million to 307 projects statewide," said Jay DiLorenzo, president of the Preservation League. "Preserve New York has a strong track record of bolstering local preservation efforts and delivering a strong return on investment."

"At its August, 2014 meeting, the Preserve New York grant program panel selected 15 applicants in 12 counties around the state to share $100,000 in funding," said Tania Werbizky, the League's Regional Director of Technical and Grant Programs in western New York. "As always, the competition for these funds was intense. The Preservation League is delighted to help advance the preservation efforts of the Town of Campbell with timely funding from Preserve New York."
