Town of Livingston Receives Preservation Grant

ALBANY, NY (12/04/2014)(readMedia)-- The Preservation League of New York State will make a grant of $8,200 to support the cost of completing a reconnaissance-level Cultural Resources Survey of the Town of Livingston at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 5, at the Livingston Town Hall, 119 County Route 19, Livingston.

Founded in 1788, the Town of Livingston was part of the 1686 land grant made to Robert Livingston for Livingston Manor. The survey will document the rich history of this community, which is census-tract eligible for the NYS Rehabilitation Tax Credit, and serve as a planning tool for the town.

The survey also responds to the League's 2014-15 Seven to Save designation of the Historic and Cultural Resources of Columbia County. Documentation of Livingston's historic and cultural heritage will help inform New York State officials as they plan for possible expanded power line development in the Hudson Valley. Preservation consulting firm Larson Fisher Associates will complete the survey.

"Livingston is fortunate to have over 300 years of settled history that is evident in our homes, businesses, and farms," said Will Yandik, Deputy Supervisor, Livingston. "As we look towards a future master plan for our town it will be crucial to understand the resources that we have."

The Preserve New York Grant Program is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature. "With the announcement of the 2014 awards, the total support provided by Preserve New York since its launch in 1993 is over $1.9 million to 307 projects statewide," said Jay DiLorenzo, president of the Preservation League. "Preserve New York has a strong track record of bolstering local preservation efforts and delivering a strong return on investment."

"At its August, 2014 meeting, the Preserve New York grant program panel selected 15 applicants in 12 counties around the state to share $100,000 in funding," said Erin Tobin, the League's Regional Director of Technical and Grant Programs in eastern New York. "As always, the competition for these funds was intense. The Preservation League is delighted to help advance the preservation efforts of the Town of Livingston with timely funding from Preserve New York."
