Raising Awareness of Sensible Opioid Settlement Spending and Compassionate Approach to Addiction Care

ALBANY, NY (07/16/2024) (readMedia)-- The Trail of Truth initiative underscores the urgent need for effective and empathetic use of opioid settlement funds. By directly engaging with the political events surrounding the Presidential campaign, including the Presidential Debate and conventions, the group aims to ensure that the crisis of drug overdose deaths is addressed thoughtfully and effectively at the highest levels of political decision-making.

Main Events: Tuesday, July 16, 2024 from 11AM - 7PM, tombstone painting on N. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr just east of the Fiserv Arena where the Republican National Convention is taking place. Wednesday, July 17, 2024 members of the group speak from the stage at Zeigler Union Square and then march in the Demonstrators' Parade at 12:40PM.

WHO:

Trail of Truth, a coalition of grieving families spearheaded by Truth Pharm, a 501(c)(3) organization, and supported by 95 national partners. This initiative focuses on immediate access to treatment, ending discrimination, barrier-free access to naloxone, and responsible spending of settlement funds. It emphasizes care over punishment.
WHAT:

 Family members impacted by a loved one’s addiction and loss will speak at Zeigler Union Square and march in the demonstrators’ parade on Wednesday during the Republican National Convention. Tuesday, they will perform a poignant visual demonstration featuring 20 individuals personally impacted by drug overdose deaths painting tombstones to memorialize loved ones lost to overdose and other substance use related deaths at various locations throughout the Republican National Convention. This action aims to highlight the fatal consequences of inaction and mismanagement of opioid settlement funding.
