Treasurer Fitzgerald Awards $1,000 College Savings Iowa Account to Iowa Family

DES MOINES, IA (01/22/2019) (readMedia)-- State Treasurer Michael L. Fitzgerald awarded a $1,000 College Savings Iowa account today to six year old Nora Brostad of Storm Lake. Nora was randomly selected to receive the account after her mother, Katie, entered her for the giveaway as a part of the College Savings Iowa 2018 Year-End Giveaway.

"With the cost of higher education rising every year, saving for future education is not an easy task these days," stated Fitzgerald. "Our goal for College Savings Iowa is to encourage families to start saving early for their loved one's higher educational expenses. Saving early can reduce a family's need to borrow to cover educational expenses, which can lead to reduced debt."

College Savings Iowa celebrated the holiday and gift-giving season with the $1,000 giveaway through the entire month of December. The year-end giveaway began only one month after Treasurer Fitzgerald and College Savings Iowa celebrated its 20th year of savings by awarding over $22,000 in college savings to nine families across Iowa. College Savings Iowa uses these celebrations and giveaways as a chance to spread awareness about the benefits of saving with a 529 plan. College Savings Iowa runs multiple account giveaways every year, so keep an eye out for future giveaways.
