Treasurer Fitzgerald Awards $529 College Savings Iowa Giveaway Contribution to Iowa Family

DES MOINES, IA (06/11/2019) (readMedia)-- State Treasurer Michael L. Fitzgerald awarded a $529 College Savings Iowa contribution today to Judy Moore of Bettendorf and her 11-year-old granddaughter Zoey. Judy's submission for Zoey was randomly selected to receive the giveaway contribution after Judy entered the College Savings Iowa's 529 Day Celebration Giveaway during the month of May.

"529 Day is the yearly celebration around the country to spread awareness of 529 plans and how they can benefit families saving for higher education," stated Fitzgerald. "Our goal for College Savings Iowa is to encourage families throughout the entire year to start saving early for their loved one's higher educational expenses. Saving early can reduce a family's need to borrow, which can lead to reduced debt."

College Savings Iowa celebrated 529 Day the whole month of May with the $529 giveaway. The 529 Day celebration might be over, but Treasurer Fitzgerald and College Savings Iowa want to continue spreading the word into the summer. College Savings Iowa is hosting another $529 giveaway until June 30. Parents and grandparents can visit Iowa529Contest.com to read the official rules and register for their chance to win. Any resident of Iowa with a child or grandchild under the age of 18 is eligible to register.
