Treasurer Fitzgerald Sponsoring College Savings Iowa Day at Local Museum

DES MOINES, IA (09/14/2022) (readMedia)-- State Treasurer Michael Fitzgerald and College Savings Iowa are partnering with a local children's museum to celebrate College Savings Month. "We're proud to partner with The Iowa Children's Museum in Coralville to sponsor College Savings Iowa Day on Saturday, September 17," said Fitzgerald. Recognized annually in September, College Savings Month is dedicated to informing families about the importance of saving for a child's education. "Saving for education is not only important, but it's easy when you use a 529 plan," said Fitzgerald. "Take College Savings Iowa, for example. We offer four age-based investment portfolios, automatic investment plans and a mobile app to make the process smooth for our savers."

College Savings Iowa is a 529 plan helping families and friends save for the education dreams of their children. Funds can be used at any eligible education institution in the U.S. or abroad and includes apprenticeship programs, trade schools, colleges, universities and more. Participants can withdraw the money tax-free for qualified education expenses, such as tuition, room and board, supplies, textbooks and more. Iowa taxpayers have an added bonus of a state tax deduction for their contributions. Up to $3,522 per beneficiary account can be deducted from 2022 Iowa income taxes.
