Treasurer Smith Announces Shelby County Winner in Statewide ISave 529 Summer Giveaway
DES MOINES, IA (09/18/2026) (readMedia)-- State Treasurer Roby Smith is celebrating Bill Michael S. as the Shelby County winner of a $529 contribution to an ISave 529 account through the statewide summer giveaway. With another giveaway now underway, Treasurer Smith is encouraging families to enter for their own chance to jump-start their education savings.
"This summer, we set out to give a child in every one of Iowa's 99 counties a boost toward their future," said Smith. "I'm excited to congratulate Bill Michael and their family on representing Shelby County. Whether these funds are someday used for college, an apprenticeship or another eligible education expense, that $529 will be useful for Bill Michael's future."
The summer giveaway awarded a $529 ISave 529 contribution to one child in each of Iowa's 99 counties. An additional statewide winner received a $1,000 contribution.
"I am truly grateful to ISave 529 and Treasurer Roby Smith for making the Summer Giveaway possible. This is such a wonderful start toward our grandson, Bill Michael's, future. My daughter shared the opportunity with us, and we entered all of our grandchildren. We were so excited to hear our oldest grandson, Bill Michael, was the winner! What a special gift and a wonderful way to begin investing in his future and the opportunities that lie ahead. Thank you, ISave 529 and Treasurer Roby Smith, for making this possible!" said Cathy Stockwell, who entered Bill Michael in the summer giveaway.
The summer giveaway may be over, but Iowans have another opportunity to win. In celebration of College Savings Month, State Treasurer Smith is giving away one $1,000 ISave 529 contribution in September.
"Seeing families like Bill Michael's get excited about saving is exactly why we keep these giveaways going," Smith said. "If you entered this summer and didn't win, enter again. If you've never thought about saving for education before, now is a great time to start. Another $1,000 is up for grabs, and it could be going toward a child in Shelby County."
