Treasurers Fitzgerald and Frerichs Make Multi-State Program Announcement Benefiting Persons with Disabilities

DES MOINES, IA (02/07/2017) (readMedia)-- Iowa State Treasurer Michael Fitzgerald and Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs will announce the official start of a groundbreaking multi-state partnership that will help individuals with a disability or blindness save for a better future. Treasurers Fitzgerald and Frerichs, will share information about the Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Program in Iowa and Illinois.

WHAT:

Treasurers Fitzgerald and Frerichs will jointly announce plans for the ABLE Act in Iowa and Illinois.

Following the passage of the Achieving a Better Life Act (ABLE) at the federal level in 2014, Iowa and Illinois adopted state ABLE legislation with the support of Treasurers Fitzgerald and Frerichs. This legislation enabled the treasurer’s offices to create IAble, Iowa’s ABLE program, and the Illinois ABLE program. These are federally tax-advantaged savings programs that allow individuals to save for disability-related expenses.
