Trevecca Second @ G-MAC, Two Make 2nd Team
NASHVILLE, TN (10/23/2012)(readMedia)-- The Trevecca women's cross country team brought home two awards at the first-ever G-MAC Cross Country Championships. The team finished placed Jackie Sendewicz and Katherine Carmody on the all-conference second team while recording their second best team time of the year.
The event was held at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course on the Cedarville University campus. The 5000 meter course is host to numerous cross country events each year. Trevecca will join its fellow NCCAA member schools on this same course in three weeks for the NCCAA National Championships.
Jackie Sendewicz was the fastest Trojan at 20:50.13 just ahead of Katherine Carmody at 20:51.61. Both earned 2012 G-MAC Second Team honors. Christina Corzine was next at 21:37.93 and Holly Fudge beat her personal best by a full minute finishing in a time of 21:48.92. Rachel Mudd also recorded a personal best time of 22:00.38.
Trevecca Head Coach Brad Peterson said the race was much like the season for the women's team, "The women's performance was up and down, much like their up and down season. We have still to put together a complete race. The highlights are easy: Rachel Mudd finished a race without any issues and set a personal best in the process. Holly Fudge ran her best race of the season by one minute for a huge personal best."
Peterson continued talking about the individual performances, "The rest of the team seemed timid and you can't be that way against a great team like Cedarville. Katherine Carmody and Jackie Sendewicz both achieved all conference second team honors but both expected to be first team. I thought we would have at least one or two more girls in the top 15. Still, it was our second best race of the year and by far our best race for gap time with only 70 seconds separating 1 through 7. The gap is normally about four minutes."
Peterson finished his comments about the meet by saying, "I am looking forward to this team putting together their best performance back her in three weeks. We had seven of the eight women qualified for the NCCAA National Championships."
All of Trevecca's harriers qualified for the 2012 NCCAA Championships. The event will be run at the Elivn R. King Course on the Cedarville University campus on November 10. The women's race will start at 9 a.m.
