Trevecca Students Participate in Amazing Race: Mission Edition
NASHVILLE, TN (12/05/2013)(readMedia)-- Deborah Givens, a senior interpersonal communication major at Trevecca Nazarene University, was one of five Trevecca students who recently participated in the "Amazing Race: Mission Edition––Take 2" for youth, held October 18-20 at Lake Placid, Florida .
The Amazing Race, a collaboration of three Church of the Nazarene international mission organizations, wast planned for young people as a way to teach them about mission work. Professor Kathy Mowry, a member of the faculty of Trevecca's Millard Reed School of Theology and Christian Ministry, and five students from Trevecca organized and executed the event for the 76 students and leaders while promoting Trevecca's mission program.
Givens is very involved at Trevecca. She plays sand volleyball and flag football as a part of Trevecca's intramural sports. She works as a student manager at the Hub, a student dining facility, and as a receptionist at the Center for Leadership, Calling, and Service. She also works with the teen quizzing program at Trevecca Community Church. Givens has participated in two short term mission trips through Trevecca; one to Peru and the other to a Creative Access country. She studied abroad in Jerusalem for the spring 2013 semester through the Coalition for Christian Colleges and Universities. Givens said about the event, "For me, the most significant part of the event was the debrief and worship service Saturday evening. If the race itself only existed as an excuse to get those teens to those moments, than the entire thing was worthwhile for me."
Givens is a native of San Antonio, TX, and is the daughter of Howard and Teresa Givens.
