NASHVILLE, TN (12/11/2012)(readMedia)-- GREENVILLE, S.C. - The National Christian College Athletic Association has selected Trevecca volleyball player Kristen Johnson, of Franklin, Tenn., as a 2012 NCCAA Division I Women's Volleyball All-American. Johnson, who was selected to the second-team, is the first Trojan to earn honor since the program joined the NCCAA in 2011.
Johnson, a 5-9 junior right-side hitter, was selected as the Great Midwest Athletic (G-MAC) and NCCAA Mid-East Region player of the year. She is the only player to rank in the top team in five of six G-MAC statistical categories. The four-time G-MAC Athlete of the Week posted 17-triple doubles on the season.
The Independence (Thompson's Station, Tenn.) High School graduate ranks fourth in hitting (.251); fourth in kills (3.05), but is second with 421 overall kills; sixth in assists (4.07), seventh in blocks (0.48), and eighth in digs (2.93). Her 0.23 service aces per game are just outside the top-ten, but her 32 service aces overall are better than four of the current top ten.
Johnson and her teammates joined together for a 23-win season, which is the second most in coach Jayme Crowley's tenure at Trevecca. The team tied for second in the G-MAC regular season and reached the finals of the G-MAC tournament.
This season produced the fourth 20 –win team in coach Jayme Crowley's five-year tenure at Trevecca. Only her 2009 team has produced more wins when they finished 25-13. Eleven of the last 15 Trevecca teams have won at least 20 matches.
