Tributes to Blu the Bunny Win State Fair Awards

DES MOINES, IA (08/19/2018) (readMedia)-- Young Ice Cream enthusiasts put their bunny themed creations to the test in the Give in to the Blu Creation Competition judged Thursday at the 2018 Iowa State Fair.

In the ages 6 to 9 class of competition, Leeah Hartman of Des Moines won first place and a $100 cash award. Luke Hartman of Des Moines claimed second place and $75. Brooklynn Sedlock of Indianola earned third place and $50.

Reis Estey of Elkhart won first place and a $100 cash award in the ages 10 to 14 class of competition. Collin Houg of Urbandale claimed second place and $75.

Contestants were tasked to create an ice cream dish that best represented Blu, the Blue Bunny Ice Cream mascot.

Entries were judged on originality, theme and best use of Blue Bunny ice cream.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 171 divisions, 727 classes and over 9,574 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
