Trine Univerity hires admissions director for Peoria campus

ANGOLA, IN (04/22/2013)(readMedia)-- Trine University has hired a director of admissions for its new campus in Peoria.

Bree Stalhut, of Peoria, began her duties last month, and is responsible for enrollment management and supervising admission counselors. As director, she oversees the overall planning and operations of meeting goals for new student recruitment, marketing, and policy and communication development. Stalhut also counsels students and parents on admission and financial aid processes and procedures.

In addition, Stalhut works closely with and establishes partnerships with local school districts, community colleges, business and industry.

"We're pleased to have Bree on board as we recruit students for seated classes on the new campus," said Earl D. Brooks II, Trine president. "Her experience in admissions is an asset because we'll have almost 200 students attending the Peoria campus this fall. Our goal is an academically talented and culturally diverse student body."

In October, Trine announced it was partnering with the city of Peoria to open a campus this spring in that city, a suburb of Phoenix. Currently, Trine has students enrolled in online classes. The campus is located at 14100 N. 83rd Ave., Peoria.

Stalhut earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology in May 2004 and a Master of Education in Higher Education Leadership in May 2012, both from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. Before joining Trine, she served as an admissions counselor at Midwestern University in Glendale, Ariz., from 2008 to 2012. Midwestern is a private, nonprofit medical school. Prior to that, she served two years as admissions counselor and then two years as an academic advisor at Mohave Community College in Lake Havasu City, Ariz.

"It's been exciting to tell new students about Trine's programs and our transfer partnership with Maricopa Community Colleges," Stalhut said. "West Valley residents have been eager to hear about Trine's programs in engineering, business and criminal justice, among others."

Trine plans to offer a variety of majors in areas that are in line with Peoria's 2010 Higher Education Feasibility Study and Economic Development Implementation Strategy.

In addition to biomedical, civil and mechanical engineering, Trine will offer bachelor degrees in applied management, business administration, communication, computer science, criminal justice, emergency management, engineering technology, general studies and psychology. Trine will offer master's degrees in criminal justice, engineering and leadership. In all, 34 areas of study will be offered.

In February, Maricopa (Ariz.) Community Colleges approved Trine University as a transfer partner for programs in Peoria. The partnership will allow Trine to accept credits earned by students attending Glendale Community College, or any of the other nine Maricopa schools.

MCC, a system of 10 colleges and two skill centers, enrolls more than 265,000 students each year.
