UNH Students Take Top Honors in American Criminal Justice Association Competition

WEST HAVEN, CT (11/14/2013)(readMedia)-- University of New Haven students were the biggest winners at the recent annual American Criminal Justice Association (ACJA) Region Four Conference and Competition at Delaware Technical Community College in Newark.

Forty-three UNH students, including two foreign-exchange students, took part in the conference and competition Oct. 17-19 at Delaware Technical Community College in Newark, Delaware. Students took five academic tests, investigated a mock crime scene and participated in firearms and physical agility competitions. The competition is divided into three divisions: professional, upper (juniors and seniors) and lower (sophomores and first-year students).

UNH took home 37 awards, winning first, second or third prize in categories including Criminal Law, Corrections, Juvenile Justice, Police Management, Crime Scene, Physical Agility and Firearms. Daniel Maxwell, a lecturer in the criminal justice department and the chapter advisor, took home multiple prizes including the top academic award.

The UNH students were members of Psi Omega Nation, a chapter of ACJA with 220 members.
