AIKEN, SC (05/09/2018) More than 400 students in the University of South Carolina Aiken Class of 2018 received undergraduate and graduate degrees during commencement in the Convocation Center May 9. Among the graduates were the first cohort of USC Aiken's industrial process engineering program.

"This truly is a celebration of achievement for all involved," said Dr. Sandra Jordan, Chancellor, as she welcomed families and friends of graduates.

Vice Adm. (ret.) Charles Munns, a special advisor to the U.S. Strategic Command, former President of Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, current member of the South Carolina Commission for Higher Education, and ex-officio member of the Aiken Partnership Board, was the Commencement speaker.

Honorary degrees were conferred upon Vice Adm. Munns and Ernest R. Allen by the USC Board of Trustees. Allen served on the Aiken County Commission for Higher Education for more than two decades, serving as the commission's chair from 2014 to 2017.

"USC Aiken is extremely grateful for Admiral Munns' leadership and vision, while Mr. Allen's efforts have guaranteed that USC Aiken is well positioned to offer South Carolina employers young leaders who are articulate and critical thinkers," Jordan said. "We are indeed fortunate that they both remain stalwart ambassadors for the University of South Carolina Aiken."
