USC Aiken Ed Major Earns Distinguished Award

AIKEN, SC (10/29/2018) Lindsey Calhoun, a senior at the University of South Carolina Aiken, received the Felicia Smalls Ragland Award during the South Carolina Association for the Education of Young Children Conference in Columbia earlier this month.
"This award honors an excellent early childhood teacher candidate in our state," said Dr. Judy Beck, dean of the USC Aiken School of Education.
"I am so proud of this amazing rising educator. She is not only actively involved in classrooms in our region, but she is tackling education policies at the state and national levels as well. She's a go-getter who is making things happen."
The prestigious honor, awarded by the SC Association for the Education of Young Children, is named for Ragland who was a lifelong educator. She passed away May 20, 2013.
According to her obituary, "her purpose and passion in life was children.
"Her professional career was untiringly dedicated to the education, betterment, and encouragement of young children, parents, and early learning educators through her phenomenal staff development trainings and consultant services, administrative childcare positions, and director and management roles."
