USciences' Jessica Geer (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) Accepted to Advance Alzheimer's Research Effort
PHILADELPHIA, PA (07/11/2012)(readMedia)-- When University of the Sciences PhD candidate Jessica Geer embarks on her post-doctoral research at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, Md., she will contribute to NIST's ongoing research effort to treat Alzheimer's by examining protein structure and dynamics. In anticipation for Geer's post-doctoral research position, she is currently designing a project and preparing a research proposal to submit to the National Research Council (NRC) to fund her proposed project for the next three years.
NIST trusts Geer to generate a proposal to enhance Alzheimer's research with good reason- she has an impressive reputation at USciences and in the national chemistry community. Her dedication as an organic lab instructor and tutor for five years earned her the John Nikelly Excellence in Teaching Award in organic chemistry. Geer also lectured at three American Chemical Society (ACS) national meetings in Washington, D.C., Boston, and San Diego.
"Exposing my research to the scientific community by giving oral presentations at the national level has allowed me to stay competitive, seek opportunities for professional development, and successfully pursue them," said Geer, who is wrapping up her PhD in chemistry with her thesis emphasizing computational chemistry and drug design.
She graduated with a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Temple University in 2005 and is originally from Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
