STAUNTON, VA (09/01/2010)(readMedia)-- The newest upcoming classes offered in the Fall/Winter 2010 Brochure from the City of Staunton's Parks and Recreation Department. The purpose of this bi-monthly press release is to spread the word about our various services and activities available to the community.

EVENTS

• LIL' COUNTRY

Join us at Staunton Jams this Saturday, September 4 from 1pm-4pm. Staunton Parks and Recreation will be offering a "Lil' bit of Country" for the "lil critters" while the adults enjoy a "Lil' bit of Rock-n-Roll" in downtown Staunton on Beverley Street. At Lil' Country you'll find face painting, temporary tattoos, arts & crafts, caricatures, and farm animal balloons.

Staunton Jams will be rockin' from 12noon to 10pm. FREE EVENT.

• FAMILY NIGHT FLIX

This successful summer movie series is shown on the "X-TREME" screen at the Gypsy Hill Park Bandstand. Admission is FREE and open to the public.

8:30pm, Friday, September 10- HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF BLOOD PRINCE (rated PG)

Shenandoah Pizza will provide food for purchase.

TRIPS

• Girls Day Out II- Caving

Ready to literally get down and dirty? This is a ½ day beginners caving adventure. Find out what the year-round underground temperature is, then emerge back into sunlight with a new appreciation for what happens underneath Virginia when limestone and groundwater meet. Bring snacks and lots of water. This is an "intermediate" level class and should not be taken if you have serious health problems. A "what to wear" list can be picked up at the Recreation Department.

PROGRAMS

• Cooking From Your Garden

Explore creative ways to use the garden's bounty of fresh produce with market farmer & cookbook author Anne-Marie Parrish. Featured recipes: Butternut Soup, Baked Fennel, Winter Vegetable Gratin & Pumpkin Cookies.

• Seasonal Cooking: Staunton Farmers' Market w/ Chef Mike Lund

Chef Mike Lund, of Zynodoa Restaurant and formerly of the world-renowned The Inn at Little Washington, invites you to join him each Saturday starting mid-September at the Staunton-Augusta Farmers' Market, where you will meet local producers and select the freshest produce possible. Then a demonstration and hands-on participation will take place as a true farm-to-table meal is prepared. Class is limited to 12 people, register ASAP.

9am-1pm, four Saturdays starting September 11

Meet at the Staunton/Augusta Farmers' Market entrance at 9am and then to Booker T. Washington Community Center for cooking demonstration & tastings.

ATHLETICS

• Co-Ed Adult Kickball League

This league is open to anyone 16+ years and up. Games will be 9 vs. 9 and will be played on Tuesday evenings in Montgomery Hall Park. Rosters are limited to 15 players.

• Co-Ed Adult Spring Outdoor Soccer League

This soccer league is open to anyone 16 years and up. Games will be 7 vs. 7 and will be played at the Montgomery Hall Park Soccer Complex on Wednesdays and Sundays. Rosters are limited to 12 players with any combination of male/female players.
