Take a walk with a VIC naturalist from 10 a.m. to noon and learn to identify various trees. $20/person, $15 for Friends of the VIC. Preregister by 5 p.m. Saturday, May 16.

Sunday, May 17 – Wildflower Workshop

Take a walk with a VIC naturalist from 1 to 4 p.m. and learn about early-season flowers. $20/person, $15 for Friends of the VIC. Preregister by 5 p.m. Saturday, May 16.

Wednesday, May 20 – Spring Owl Walk

Join naturalist Brian McAllister at 8 p.m. as he searches the VIC trails for owls. Meet in the VIC parking lot with a flashlight or headlamp to help guide your way. $10/person, $5 for Friends of the VIC. Preregister required by 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 19.

Thursday, May 21 – Volunteer Pot Luck

VIC volunteers and staff will gather at 5:30 p.m. to discuss upcoming events. Bring a dish to pass and a place setting.

Friday, May 22 – No-School Days

Learn about spring and the animals that thrive in it. This program is geared toward third- to fifth-graders. Please dress for a two- to three-hour outdoor session and pack a lunch. 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Preregister by 5 p.m. Thursday, May 21. $35/person, $25 for Friends of the VIC.

Saturday, May 23 – Jenkins Mountain Scramble

This trail run takes place at the Paul Smith's College VIC. All proceeds support the VIC. The run is part of the Adirondack Trail Running Race series hosted by High Peaks Cyclery and the VIC.

Join Brian McAllister of the Adirondack Birding Center at 9 a.m. as he searches for late migrating birds. Observe as they set up nesting territory, sing and show off their mating display. $20/session, $15 for Friends of the VIC, free for Warblers. Please call 518-327-6241 to register.

Saturday, May 30 – Wetland Detectives

Participants will explore a wetland site from 9 a.m. to noon and practice the amphibian, bird and plant monitoring skills learned at previous workshops. New Moon Art

Every month on the new moon, we adorn the walls of the VIC Great Room with work of local artists. Some work is available for purchase. Check out the results of our photo shootout until Sunday, May 17. Twelve local photographers took part in the shootout at the VIC over a four-day period. From Monday, May 18, to Monday, June 15, the Birds of a Feather Invitational will be on display.

Plein Air Art Raffle

Take a chance on one of two paintings donated by local artists Sandra Hildreth and Nancy Brossard. The paintings capture the natural world on canvas and express the artists' visions through the paintbrush. Both paintings are currently on display. All proceeds benefit VIC art development programs. Tickets are $2 a piece or three for $5. Winners will be drawn during the Plein Air Festival's Paint the VIC barbecue on Tuesday, Aug. 18.
