Identify wild edibles and learn about their historic medicinal uses. Walks will be held from 10-11:30 a.m., rain or shine. $20/person, $15 for Friends of the VIC. Bring a bagged lunch and join "Truly Wild" instructor Pat Banker from Cornell Cooperative Extension Franklin County for a recipe swapping session and a look through her collection of wild edible plant ID books. Friday-Sunday, June 5-7 – 13th annual Great Adirondack Birding Celebration

Celebrate the boreal birds that make the Adirondack Mountains their summer home. This is a chance to see the Bicknell's thrush, black-backed woodpecker, gray jay, boreal chickadee, gold-winged warbler and more. Beginning birders are welcome. Saturday's keynote lecture features a talk on the Bicknell's thrush by Chris Rimmer from the Vermont Center for Ecostudies. Registration information is available at http://adirondackvic.org/.

The Paul Smith's College VIC Butterfly House opens daily, weather permitting, through Labor Day.

Friday-Sunday, June 12-14 – International Birch Sap and Syrup Conference

The Adirondack Center for Working Landscapes has partnered with Cornell University Cooperative Extension to host the first International Birch Sap and Syrup Conference at the VIC. Experts in the field will be on hand to talk about the growing popularity and demand for birch products. Registration information is available at www.paulsmiths.edu/birch.

Saturday, June 20 – Daily Interpretive Nature Walk

Summer interpretive walks begin. Every day until Labor Day, explore flora, fauna and other VIC ecology on this interpretive walk led by a VIC naturalist. 1-2 p.m. $10/person, free for Friends of the VIC.

Tuesday, June 23 –Interpretive Canoe Paddle

Summer interpretive canoe paddles begin. Explore a variety of aquatic habitats on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays until Labor day. 10 a.m.-noon. $20/person $15 for Friends of the VIC. Inquire about family discounts. Call 518-327-6241 to register the day before the walk.

Wednesday, June 24 – Summer Fun Trail Runs

The VIC and High Peaks Cyclery are hosting a series of trail runs and mountain bike races on alternating Wednesday evenings through the summer. Series prizes will be awarded at the Fall Foliage Ramble on Saturday, Oct. 10. $5/person. Registration for each race is at 6 p.m. Races start at 6:30 p.m. VIC Wednesday trail runs: July 8 & 22, Aug. 5 & 19, Sept. 2. High Peaks Wednesday trail runs and mountain bike races: July 1 & 15 Aug. 12 & 26.

Sunday, June 28 – Mushroom Walk

Learn to identify poisonous and edible mushroom species and learn about their medicinal value, too. 10 a.m. This walk will take at least two hours and will be held rain or shine. Monday, June 29 –Yoga On the Deck

Unify with nature during this outdoor yoga class and intensify your experience. Participate in Sun Salutations while actually reaching for the sun. Enjoy a stunning playlist courtesy of the birds and the breeze. Feel rooted while holding tree pose in the forest. 9-10:15 a.m. Same-day drop-in fee is $15. Prepay for up to six classes for $13, seven to 13 classes for $12 and 14 to 20 classes for $10. Open to all abilities. Bring a mat and large towel. Additional classes will be held every Monday and Wednesday through Sept.2.
