Paul Smith College's Andrew McDonald will give a talk on climbing Mount Rainier. 7 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 10 – Adirondack Trail Running Series Fall Foliage Ramble

Celebrate the 2015 Adirondack Trail Race Series with our grand finale at 9 a.m. Warning: this trail run may be aesthetically overwhelming. Post-race barbecue to follow. T-shirts available for the first 50 registrants. Preregister at runreg.com. Same-day registration also available.

Sunday, Oct. 11 – Trees of the Adirondacks

Take a leisurely walk with a VIC naturalist and learn to identify various trees. 10 a.m. to noon. Identify at least 10 trees or your money back. $20/person, $15 for Friends of the VIC. Preregister by 5 p.m. the day before.

Saturday, Oct. 17 – Quilting Workshop

Learn to construct a complex-looking quilt pattern by piecing together nine-patch quilt blocks and create your own striking patterns. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is a great project for a beginner or anyone who wants to create a quick and attractive quilt. $25/person. Call the VIC at 518-327-6241 to register by 5 p.m. the day before the workshop.

Thursday, Oct. 22 – Armchair Lecture Series: Who was Paul Smith?

Paul Smith's historian Neil Surprenant will give a talk on the life and times of Paul Smith, the region's original entrepreneur. 7 p.m.

Thursday, Oct. 22 – Volunteer Potluck

All Volunteers are welcome. Just bring a dish to pass, and join us for hors d'oeuvres at 5:30 p.m. Dinner is at 6 p.m. Don't miss the Armchair Traveler Lecture at 7 p.m.

Thursday, Oct. 29 – Volunteer Annual Goose Chase

Take a trip to Malone with our volunteers at 3:30 p.m. and watch the snow geese arrive. Join us for dinner afterwards at Mo's Pub and Grill. Call Brian McAllister at 518-327-6241 to sign up by Oct. 28.

Saturday, Oct. 31 – Halloween Birding Trip to the Champlain Valley

Join naturalist Brian McAllister for an eerie day of late fall bird watching along the Lake Champlain Valley. We'll scare up numerous waterfowl, raptors and late fall migrants on this comfortable van-driven adventure along the autumnal-speckled shoreline of Lake Champlain. Meet promptly at the VIC front desk by 7:45 a.m. $75/person, $65 for Friends of The VIC. Get an early bird special for $55 if you register before Oct. 21.

Tuesday, Oct. 13, through Friday, Nov. 20 – New Moon Art Show

The Paul Smith's College VIC will feature the work of multiple artists whose works show off the essence of fall color. The exhibit showcases fabric, color, clay, watercolor, oils and acrylics. Works by Anne Burnham, Cheryl Mirer, Ray Whalen, Sara Wexler, Irja Boden, Romi Sebald, Ola Aldous and Nina Holland.
